Oil stocks lead gainers', losers' table at Nigerian bourse

Major Petroleum marketing companies at the end of trading Tuesday on the floor of the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) led the gainers' table with Mobil Nig Plc and Chevron Nig Plc leading the pack, just as Total Nig Plc and Oando Plc led the losers' table.

Market capitalization dropped to 10.04 trillion naira from 10.14 trillion naira recorded Monday.

The All-Share Index also dropped from 50,462.89 points to 49,318.32 points recorded Tuesday.

In all, investors staked 7.47 billion naira on 838.5 million shares traded in 14,384 deals.

Mobil gained N13.20 to close at N277.20, Chevron Nig Plc followed with a gain of N11.78 to close at N247.44 followed by Guinness Nig Plc which closed at N125.14, gaining N3.16 in the process.

On the other hand, Total Plc lost N12.02 to close at N228.48, Oando Plc followed with N8.45 to close at N160.55 and Chemical And Allied Nig Plc closed at N2.19, losing N49.00.

The banking subsector led the activity chart measured in turnover volumes with 4 28.38 million shares valued at 5.10 billion naira in 7,596 deals.

Spring bank Plc was the most traded stocks with 240.3 million shares, First Bank of Nigeria Plc followed with 30.4 million shares and Afribank Plc with a turnover of 25.6 million shares.

Activity in the three companies boosted the subsector.

Insurance subsector which has led the activity chart in the past few months came next with 328.6 million shares worth 394.5 million naira in 1,9586 deals.

Investment And Allied Assurance Plc led with a whooping 254.9 million shares, LA SACO Assurance Plc followed with 25.9 million shares and N.E.M. Insurance Co (Nig) Plc traded 7.8 million shares.

Food/Beverages and Tobacco sub sector recorded a turnover of 15.4 million shares valued at 420.3 million naira traded in 1,138 deals.

Tantalizers Plc led with 3.7 million shares, Dangote Sugar Refineries Plc sold 3.35 million shares and Nigerian Bottling Co. Plc 2.2 million shares.
