Market capitalisation upbeat at Nigerian bourse

Market capitalisation went up at the end of transactions Tuesday on the floor of the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) with 10.4 trillion na i ra in contrast with the previous day when 10.2 trillion naira was recorded.

Similarlarly, the all-share index went higher from Monday figure of 51,205.37 po ints to 52,259.45 points.

Investors also staked more money on shares, as 7.92 billion naira was placed on 758.3 million shares in 13,839 deals, compared with the previous day when invest o rs staked 5.75 billion naira on 422.4 million shares traded in 12,396 deals.

The insurance sub-sector led on the activity chart, measured in turnover volume with 378.5 million shares valued at 465.7 million naira in 1,759 deals.

Investment and Allied Assurance Plc maintained its lead as the most traded stock from the sector, with International Energy Insurance Plc and Regency Alliance I n surance Plc following.

The banking sub-sector followed on the activity chart with 211.8 million shares valued at 4.52 billion naira in 6,507 deals.

Fidelity Bank Plc led as the most traded stock, Oceanic Bank International Plc a nd Access Bank Plc followed.

The shares of the three companies boosted the activity in the sub-sector.

Conglomerates sub-sector followed with 33.6 million shares worth 145.8 million n aira in 417 deals.

Transnational Corporation of Nigeria (Transcorp) top the sector as the most patr onised by investors, as United African Company of Nigeria Plc (UACN) and Unileve r Nig Plc followed.

Chevron oil Nig Plc led the losers' table with N12.34 to close at N234.48; 7UP B ottling Company Plc also lost N2.58, to close at N49.16 and NASCON Plc followed w ith a loss of N0.59 to close at N11.91.

Another oil stock, Mobil Plc, led the gainers' table with N11.01 to close at N23 1.21, Julius Bereger Plc followed with a gain of N6.01 to close at N126.34 and B e nue Cement Company Plc N2.42 to close at N50.92.
