The agreement was signed here Tuesday by Japanese Ambassador, Kitazawa Kanji, and Congolese Foreign and International Cooperation Minister, Antipas Mbusa Nyamwisi.

"The aid contributes to the development of several projects in many provinces through counterpart funding, jointly managed by DRC Planning Ministry and the Japanese Embassy.

"Ongoing projects are already remarkably successful, thanks to the good management and implementation of the fund in all provinces of the country", said the statement.

Since 2004, Japan has been giving food aid to DRC, to the tune of about US$ 22,2 00,000.

On the occasion of the fourth Tokyo International Conference on African Developm ent (TICAD) held in Yokohama in May 2008, Japan announced its emergency food aid programme for developing countries, including African states, to the tune of US$ 100 million.
