High Court issues bench warrant for former Ombudsman |

Sierra Leone's Anti-Corruption Commission had indicted him on 168 counts of misa ppropriation of public funds and he was to appear before Justice Mary M. Sey, bu t his whereabouts have been unknown since Thursday afternoon.
The Commission successfully applied for a bench warrant for the arrest of Gabbid on and has also informed the police, immigration and Office of National Security about his disappearance.
A statement issued to the press earlier said "the Anti-Corruption Commission on Friday filed a 168-count indictment for misappropriation of public funds, contra r y to Section 12(1) of the Anti-Corruption Act 2000 (as amended) against Francis A Gabbidon, former Ombudsman of the Republic of Sierra Leone".
The statement of offence alleged that Gabbidon, between 2001 and 2007, being the Ombudsman of the Republic of Sierra Leone, misappropriated public funds entrust e d to him by falsely representing that certain individuals were employed by the O f fice of the Ombudsman in various capacities.
The Commission has also filed a two-count indictment for soliciting and acceptin g an advantage against Santigie Abu Bai Kalokoh, a public officer attached to th e Public Services Commission of the Government of Sierra Leone as Higher Executiv e Officer.
The Anti-Corruption Commission alleged that Kalokoh solicited and accepted an ad vantage from two people so that he could assist their relative to secure enrollm e nt into the Sierra Leone Civil Service as a Nursing sister in the Ministry of Health and Sanitation.
Kalokoh, who was arraigned on Friday at the High Court presided by Justice Mary M. Sey, pleaded not guilty and was granted bail to appear before the same court o n 18 July 2008. |
